This week has been a blur...but we're on the mend. Natalie is getting better, and we're both catching up on sleep.

Little Golden Books

I vividly remember (as many my age do, I'm sure) reading "Little Golden Books" as a kid. I can even remember Cory reading them to me, before I knew how. There were a couple books of mine that I loved b/c of the illustrations. They were by Eloise Wilkin.
This one was my favorite:

So imagine my surprise when I find this in a store a couple days ago:

I hope Natalie enjoys these stories as much as I do. I'm so thrilled she gets to experience them as well. Here are some photos of a few of the pages. Aren't her illustrations beautiful?

She captures the innocence of these little one's faces so well. There's something reassuring about them.

Natalie is sick.

I knew we couldn't get through another winter without getting some kind of bug, but it's still sad to see her feeling so miserable. So far, it seems to be a cold, but please keep her in your prayers. Mike is taking time off from work so I can sleep some during the day since she is up most of the night. Thank you Mike!

She is asleep on my chest as I type this, mouth gaping open b/c her nose is so stuffed up. She still has tears running now her face from her watery eyes. I've tried laying her down in her crib a few times now, and she just panics and cries. *sigh* So here we are.

She still has a lot of "stinker" in her though. Earlier today, she thought it was hilarious to wipe her nose on my shirt...just to see my reaction. Ugh! Of course it quickly became a game! Needless to say, I've changed shirts many times this afternoon.

Insurance

If any of you (in the state of MO) need any kind of insurance, contact me and I'll pass along my brother Doug's info. He sells insurance; Mike and I just bought life insurance through him. We were very impressed with how inexpensive/fast it was to do. We will eventually be transferring all our insurance policy's over to his company. Just thought I'd throw that out there!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I was surprised on Wednesday with 2 dozen roses from Mike. We usually don't do much for Valentine's, maybe exchange cards. This year, Mike wanted to surprise me...surprise me, he did! Aren't they beautiful?! I had fun arranging them...Natalie helped. She stood on a step stool by the counter watching me, needing to smell each and every one.

We got Natalie a few things for V-day as well, and let her have them early. We are terrible at waiting to give gifts, but we had a good excuse this time! She has a very mysterious rash that resembles chicken pox, so we've had to keep her at home. Nothing helps pass the time quicker than new toys! As for the chicken pox, she had the vaccination for it at 12 months...but I don't know what else this would be.

I've been taking pictures and emailing them to Mom and Dad constantly, asking for their opinions. I could take her to the pediatrician to find out for sure, but that's not something I want to do (unless absolutely necessary). She may or may not have it, but exposing her to cold and flu viruses at the height of the sicky-season isn't worth the "yes" or "no" answer to the pox question. I'll just assume she does have it for now...and spare you from the pictures. :)

"No!"

We've been working with Natalie on her abc's lately, and occasionally she's just not in the mood. It goes something like this:

Dentist

The visit with the pediatric dentist went very well. We took Natalie in because of some dark stains appearing on her front top and bottom teeth. This was surprising to us; we are very good about brushing her teeth twice a day, as well as limiting sweets, juice, and brushing right before she goes to sleep.

We had also been wrestling with the insurance company this week trying to get her added on to our dental insurance. The problem wasn't the company, it was the employer and not allowing us to add her on until open enrollment in May. *sigh* So now we pay out of pocket, or wait until June when coverage goes into effect.

We decided it couldn't wait and took her in to see a pediatric dentist that our insurance will cover when she's added on. It was twice the amt. just for the exam than our regular dentist, but I insisted to Mike that we wanted someone that was used to working with children, and wouldn't turn us away if she didn't cooperate. (which is what our family dentist told us!! Hello!?! She's ONE! Of COURSE she's not going to cooperate!)

When the dentist came in, she told us they were giving us a free exam!!! I about hugged her. She looked at her teeth and said they needed to be cleaned so she could see if it's just surface stains, or decay underneath. So I held Natalie down while she cleaned her teeth, and the stains came off immediately! It was all just surface stains that was more than likely caused by her toothbrush bristles being too soft to clean her teeth effectively. (Apparently a lot of toddler toothbrushes are this way) Poor Natalie cried so hard during all of this, and by then end was yelling through her tears, "all done! all done! all done!"

We had a short consultation afterwards and the dentist also told us to cut down on her snacking as well. I don't think we can do that, she NEEDS the calories and to gain weight...although if I have to tote around a toothbrush and brush them afterwards each time, I can do that.

I'm happy it's over with, I'm sure Natalie is too...but I'm so glad we went. We were assured it would've turned into decay/cavities if we let it go.

WHEW! Thank you God for seeing us through yet again!

Travel

Natalie and I went to JC for the weekend. Mike worked many, many hours (72 to be exact) this week with all the snow. We had lots of fun with "maw-maw" and "dapp-paw" It seems I cease to exist when maw-maw is around. Natalie is her little shadow.

Making cookies (and eating flour--yuck!)

It took us awhile to figure out that everytime we mentioned the word "flour" she'd touch her nose. She was signing the word "flower." Now that's one smart cookie. Ha...ha... ??

Patting:

Doug and Maggie came over with Chase the next night and we frosted those cookies! Natalie was super sweet to Uncle Doug that evening. He got quite a few hugs and kisses!!

On Dapp-paw's lap watching The Incredibles Saturday morning.

Dressed up for church in her new dress!
A hug for Mommy!!!

~~We arrived back home Sunday evening, but stopped first at Nani and Pop's house for the super bowl. It is a special day when Natalie gets to see all 4 grandparents in ONE day!! That's a lot of love!! Mike was embarrassed when I asked which teams were playing.
~~I have taken on a couple projects in the last few weeks. I've started crocheting (call me "granny" if you want, but I enjoy it!), as well as making hair clips and hair bows for Natalie. Nothing stays in that fine hair of hers, but I've discovered if you line the metal clips with velvet, they don't slide! We just have to get her to STOP pulling them out of her hair!!!!!
~~Natalie has a dental appt. on Wednesday morning, and I'm anxious for some answers. Hopefully nothing to worry about; I will elaborate more after the appt. Please keep her in your prayers though. I'm curious to see how they will check her mouth--I don't even dare to put my fingers in there anymore! *chomp chomp*
~~Also, here is a link to a family that needs prayer:
